test prints

I got my prints today i only sent them to ralph last night but they were all ready done by the time i got to school today. and i have to say that they look pretty darn amazing, ive never seen this kind of matte before but it suits my project well. it only cost 6 bux which is cheaper than i thought as well. i just wished that i sent in the actual prints at proper sizeing a while ago but i dont want to leave it until the very last minute to get this all done by so i am staying with the original plan but i might still go and get another one printed anyways because it looks good and it is also good to have a back up.

the final editing

I need to finish editing my images so that i can get the test prints sent through to ralph, plus also they need to be done by saturday so i can print them through harvey norman. So im staying at school til late until i can get them edited in time.

After looking through the poems i have decided to go with this one.

It is the one poem that spoke to me the most and i feel that it suits my project

After doing my first couple i realise that i dont have enough silhouettes to finish my set off but i dont have enough time to go and take some more so i went though google and pinterest see if there was any photos that i could down load that wasn't copy righted and i found three that i could use.

I hope for my next project that i am more better prepared than this but in the end these images did enhance my project a lot more than if i hadnt used them. I ended needing to get my photos all done by wednesday for ralph to make me a test print.

this is my introduction shot, i believe that i dont need anything in these eyes, so instead i played with the overlay brush the colour dodge tool the multiply took and the burn tool to bring out a more deep colour in these eyes which speck for them selves

This is my second to last photo i thought that by adding this photo with no reflection shows that she has been broken, nothing left, same as poem. also a wind down photo

i wasnt completely sure about using a long exposure shot for this photo because i am not sure that stephanie will show up at all when it is printed but i love the fact that it looks like she is fading in this photo that she is a mare reflection of who she use to be, this is also a photo of stephanies eye as well, i felt that they were well suited together.

This is my closing photo i thought it was more symbolic to close this project with the eyes shut to show the end of both the sad ending of the poem and the project it self.

These are the final 15 that i finished with, i was aiming for 20 but i couldnt push these any further. but by the time i got to 15  i felt that i was repeating these to much or i wasnt doing enough to these photos to make them more interesting so i am glad that i didnt end up going the full 20.

in using many different eyes, from different people, with different skin tones and different colours and different ages and different genders that i  could show every one that this poem isn't speaking just about one person but a very common problem in relationships that it is not bound to gender or race or age, it is a new age for love and life, it's all changing.

monday 7th november

I am still feeling alittle surprised that is november now.

today we looked at context, and formal content using a photo from Suzanne Tamaki. For God, For Queen, for country.

The context of this image is:

  • powerful
  • She assoisciates he self as Native Sista
  • indigenous
  • Possible Maori or pacifica because of her last name.
  • about myths and leegends
  • Size is just a little
  • She identifies with the Pacific sista's group as she was one of the founding members
  • fashion - fiber - texture
  • Wahine-Toa feature through her work
  • traditional maori - indeginous costuming used.
We had a quick break and did a teacher evaluation before carrying on with talking about

Formal Techniques

  • Framing - Full shot of model leaving a little room on all 4 sides, center of frame
  • soft lighting - background is lit as there is no shadows behind the model.
  • ISO at least 100 because the room is brightly lit with special lighting
  • high aperture
  • high shutter speed
  • shallow depth of field
  • view point slightly lower than eye level - making the model seem bigger  than us more powerful
  • implied texture
  • repetition of colour
  • its a portrait
  • bounced lighting, it allows one side of the model to be in slight shadow
  • custom white balance
  • there is a vignette
  • its contrasting
  • her posture is regal, proud
  • she is wearing the union jack as well as our flag, a top hat and gloves that look like styled from the 1900's
We went straight to the computer rooms after lunch. where marie talked to us about getting  test prints ready for ralph to print, I have decided to get my main prints done through harvey norman. Samantha, stephanie and i have planned on going saturday and have the prints done, and go back to sam's after to put our projects together at her house. During the weekend I found this amazing folder, book binder to display my work in for the end of the term presentation and i found one for sam as well, My one is bright gold and i got black paper for the inside of the binder to apply my photos for. for sam's it is a soft baby pink with black paper also. I find it very comforting that  sam is presenting in a simalar way as me because i have her to talk to and refer to for guidence and that i wouldnt be the only one presenting a book, all though mine is done to poetry whereas sam has written her self a pretty cool little short story

Monday 31st October - Halloween

some of us decided to dress up for halloween because why not, it was awesome.

Crystal dressed up to but she wasn't walking around the school with us at this point.

We went through the re-enrollment process for next year and looking at what courses we can take and then we looked at some photos that was being printed by ralph.

We then had formatives for the rest of the day. my formatives were pretty good. I need to amp up my researching and Marie said I should look into symbolism since that is basically what my project is based on at the moment.

Looking through the internet at symbolism through photography is that many of the photographs are converted to greyscale or a using a small colour palette only using minimal colours or reduced colouring.

I love both of these photos because of how both of them are very simple and doesn't use much to show what they need to. All though both of these two seem to show a pretty dark meaning.
I love how perfectly aligned it is with the river behind the frame and how it is in greyscale on the outside, with the color inside.

Looking at the numerous images of symbolism I realise how much i relate to this subject and that i really like it, I want to experiment more with this subject, i see so much more that i could have done than with just the eyes but it's too late to change, I will practice with this more during the holidays when i have more time for myself to practice with this. for the time being, i will have to try and bring my A game to the  final hand in.

Symbolism art can also be called conceptual or minimal art as well. because with symbolism photography you are trying to get your concept out to the viewer through what you use through the images. symbolism photography makes healthy use of graphic symbols to represent ideas, movements, moods, anything that the artist wants to portray in the message of the viewer.
