Monday 1st August 2016

This morning we started with showing every-one our toi's. Every one had a very touching story to go with theirs but when it came to my turn I was to embarrassed and flustered to say everything that I wanted to say, it was no where near like every one else's but that is fine because I am me. I did write about it in my last blog basically.

We next went through a powerpoint about the important parts of a DSLR camera such as, ISO, Aperture, Shutter and white balance. I do remember most of this from my moving image class and feel comfortable with using it. But here is some cheat sheets to help remember any ways.

After this we were given instructions about taking 5 wrong photos and to put them in our blogs.

ISO: 1600
Aperture: 4.0
Shutter Speed: 1/20
Custom White Balance.

ISO: 6000
Aperture: 5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/20
Custom White Balance.

ISO: 400
Aperture: 7.1
Shutter Speed: 1/400
Custom White Balance.

ISO: 3200
Aperture: 7.1
Shutter Speed: 1/25
Custom White Balance.

ISO: 800
Aperture: 8.0
Shutter Speed1/50.
I custom white Balanced this photo by taking a picture of a dark colour and set it through the custom white balance settings.

We left for lunch after taking this photo. When we came back to class we had a look/ reminder of manakitanga is and then moved on to what is research and how we do it.

What we came up with in class is

Book = library, ebook, internet, google scholar, aut library, elam library, Auckland art gallary,art space, mit libraries.

Internet= Books, lynda.com, tutorials, tv. ep, youtube. pinterest, behance, artists web pages.

We also need to keep in mind when researching is that the information needs to be up to date, we need to look for the unknown, be in the right frame of mind.

We need to cite our information and the artwork we put in our blogs, such as, Title, artist name, date, medium, size of art work. and to include our own thoughts about this art work.

Next we were all set into groups to discuss what we cannot photograph. I like our groups list because it was ethical and realistic, we didn't  really talk about non technology, or god or air.

This is our list:

Very sensitive moments,
private information,
People without permission,
private property,
most art galleries,
public transport,
places that have signage saying no photography,
places like womans refuge,
a photo devolopment dark room,
court rooms
prison or jails,
high end shops,
marae,
old books,
parlament,
surgery,
car number plates,
changing rooms/public toilets,
movies,

After making this list and sharing it with the class we were split into our groups to go to the computer rooms and marie started showing us about the computer servers and blogs but since I already knew about it i started this blog instead, which helps with my homework basically, i'll be doing a seperate blog for my research, I am aiming to have at least two blogs a week one for class notes and another for research and experiments.

my first experiments for this class will be this weekend on saterday, a couple of us from class are going to go to Auckland zoo both for fun and class bonding time but also to get more practice with the camera as well. I am so excited for that.

Thanks for reading, see you next time.

  1. He rawe, great job at getting your mahi up on your Blogger!
    It is good to see that you went forward with self-directed work when you already know the class content, this is good time management.
